About Natalie

Natalie Blair is a Brooklyn-based oil painter locating the profound inside the small. Her work captures the bittersweet, sudden awareness that an ordinary moment is enormous.

Painting close and tight from her own photographs and direct observation, she compresses space until the viewer is inside the scene rather than in front of it — in the day that looms, in the winter sideways sunlight light arresting a scene, in the charged space between two hands that haven't decided yet. She uses color theory to do some of the emotional heavy lifting: warm and cool in tension, vibrating against each other so the energy of the moment seems to generate from within.

Her hope is that viewers come away feeling that their own most private, unspectacular experiences can be tremendous acts, worthy of celebration.
