...For twenty years, a tight knit group of us shared a falling-down beach shack in Bradley Beach every summer. This is one of those days. The kids ran into the water and handed us their kite — just hold this — and disappeared. We couldn't let it fall. We also couldn't be bothered to get up. So there we stayed. The sky was pink underneath all that blue. Nobody had to try very hard. Nobody had to stand up if they didn't want to.
