...There's a specific kind of morning that doesn't belong to any one day but always seems to land on a Tuesday. The day has let itself in without asking and you can't swing your legs over the edge and make yourself greet it.
This painting is from inside that moment: the door doing its patient, relentless thing. Everything in the room is white, but I pushed the color cold deliberately, because that's what it feels like — the light is there, the day is there, and none of it is warm yet. I painted this because I needed to look at it directly. I think a lot of people know this exact ceiling.
Once this one came together, I knew I needed to take it further - currently working on a scaled up 24x36in version to amplify the looming-ness of it all.
