...This is Mama Tried, our local — the place we end up at the end of an ordinary evening without really deciding to. There's a window that catches the late sun and throws heavy, lazy shadows across everything horizontal. I was doing a color study for a larger painting, trying to catch that particular light before it was gone. He's looking at me. I'm looking away. Probably at a dog. Photos of patrons' Mamas watch from their place of honor on the wall behind us.
